A doula is a professional labor assistant who provides physical and emotional support to you and your partner during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. For instance, a doula might offer: Attention to physical comfort through techniques such as touch and massage and assistance with breathing. to this item.
Absolutely, depending on your place of birth - policies and procedures differ so I always recommend to ask in hospital settings, how many support persons you are able to have attend your birth
Once you are settled in at home with your new baby, I can attend your home and assist and support you and your family in anyway that you need me to. Whether it be general household things, baby settling/sleeping support, breastfeeding support, holding baby while mama sleeps or showers. Whatever I can do to support you and hold space for you, is what I will aim to do.
No. As your Doula I am trained to provide you with non-medicalised, emotional, physical and spiritual support.
A midwife is medically trained and responsible for the medical care for you and your baby. A doula is trained to provide unconditional emotional, educational and physical support during your pregnancy and birth. In most maternity units in Australia a midwife may be responsible for multiple patients so will often be in and out of the delivery room until its close to the birth. As your doula I will attend to you when you need my presence and provide continuous support in any birthing environment.
100% YES. I attend all types of births ranging from hospitals, to birth centres to homes across the city. Wherever you wish and desire to birth is where I will be if you call on me.
Absolutely not. It is apart of my role to provide support to not only you as the birthing woman, but to your birth partner too. Birth and labour is a vulnerable time and can be quite an overwhelming time for all involved, I will hold space and advocate for you as a family from the get go.
Of course! I help and assist with all types of families
I support women through a whole range of birth scenarios including epidurals, c-sections and other interventions. It is my opinion and belief, that every birth can be met calmly and with overriding joy. I am there to support YOU no matter what path your birth takes.
The presence of birth companions such as Doulas have been shown to increase the likelihood that the mother will have less interventions during her birth. Mothers with such birth companions have also been shown to need fewer pain medications, be better satisfied with their delivery experience, women who use a Doula can experience slightly shorter labours. Ultimately, evidence shows that birth companions, such as a Doula, can help to improve health outcomes.
Reach out to me if this is something that would cater to you. I am an open book and more than happy to discuss all options with all my clients.
I always recommend to women to book in as soon as you know you are ready - once you are pregnant and thinking about hiring a birth worker to support you in any way, shoot me an email and we will get the ball rolling.
if it is something that you have considered later on in your pregnancy, or perhaps post birth, still always reach out to me as I am a huge advocate for "better late than never" - I will do my best to find space for you but if I am fully booked I will recommend another fully trusted birth worker that may work for you.
